Must be the dance
February 8, 2007
Walking in my pastel colored dress and 3-inch heels… I attended another wedding today…. Tinka, my friend, is now Mrs. Yunus. It was a love story made in Texas Instruments… a company we all used to work for. I remember how my boss teased me to this man, how he was very single and available and was looking for a girlfriend. He just moved to the Philippines from the US to work in Baguio for two years. At the time I was madly in love with someone who I thought was THE ONE so I just smiled it off; although I really wasn’t physically attracted to him anyway. Little did I know that 2 ½ years later, or maybe even three, that I would be attending his wedding to a good friend. He has found someone he could spend the rest of his life with. Good for him. The serious guy did have his cheesy ways after all… proposing to the song “Forevermore”… =) and they did dance to it while he sings it to her… sweet really…
Tinka was the career oriented, independent woman. She has always planned to get married at 30. But because of certain circumstances she has decided to settle down 3 years earlier. And no she is not pregnant. She seems happy anyway… so we are all happy for her. For sure I will miss her… the couple are moving to Malaysia to start a married life there. She surely has lessened my home sick days in Manila. And now another single friend has moved another step up the ladder... The ladder of life.
I was deeply touched today during the father-daughter dance. I was looking at the ceiling most of the time to stop the tears from falling. I, once again, imagined how mine would go. And I felt it… that moment when I would be in my father’s arms for the last time as a single woman.
Blues... blues... blues...
